Northern Oregon
Ice Lake (above photo) is located deep inside the Eagle Cap wilderness area. It is largely inaccessible, except to those in excellent condition.
Most of northern Oregon is treeless with grass and shrubs near the Columbia River (Central portion). It used to be one large grassland from The Dalles to near the border of Idaho until settlers discovered it from the Oregon Trail and overgrazing occurred. Today brush has invaded the once lush grassland. The Eagle Cap Wilderness Area is only one portion of northern Oregon that does not belong to this Columbia Plateau.
